  K-NET Information
K-NET is an observation network composed with about 1000 broadband strong-motion seismographs, with a dynamic range up to acceleration of 4000 cm/sec/sec, deployed 25km intervals in nationwide of Japan. The observed data and peak distribution maps are available as soon as an earthquake happened, and you can download the data not manually checked.

Use this link or following ways to go to K-NET.
  • If you use FTP, click here to login, or launch your own FTP-software to connect "www.k-net.bosai.go.jp".
  • A mirror site of K-NET is here.
  • Old K-NET site is here. ( old ftp )
  KiK-net information
As the fundamental activities of the Headquarters for Earthquake Research Promotion, Japan, the high sensitivity seismograph(Hi-net) and the strong-motion seismograph(KiK-net) across the all of Japan, have been deployed after the 1995 Kobe earthquake, by National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED).
Each site of the KiK-net is composed of a pair of strong-motion seismographs installed at the well bottom, which is the same location as the Hi-net sensors, and on the ground surface. Observed wave data, distribution map of peak acceleration, etc., are available to the public.

If you use FTP, click here to login, or launch your own FTP-software to connect "ftp.kik.bosai.go.jp".

High-Sensitivity seismograph network (Hi-net)
( in Japanese )
The Hi-net is an observation network composed of about 800 high-sensitivity seismographs deployed nationwide. The sensors were installed at a bottom of the borehole down to more than 100m depth. The Hi-net is capable even detecting seismic motions that are too weak to be felt.
Broadband seismograph network (F-net) The F-net is an observation network composed of broadband seismographs deployed at approximately 70 locations nationwide. The F-net is capable of accurately detecting slow ground motions originating from remote seismic sources.
Japan Seismic Hazard Information Station (J-SHIS) The National Seismic Hazard Maps for Japan and data download is available.
